Former Commonwealth Table Tennis Champion, Coach Atanda Musa, has expressed deep appreciation to the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Magaji, for naming the Table Tennis Arena at the George Innih Stadium Complex after him.
Coach Atanda Musa, who captained Nigeria’s table tennis team at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics in South Korea and Barcelona, described the honor as a significant recognition of his contributions to sports development.
Speaking in Ilorin, the Cherubim and Seraphim College alumnus recalled his gold medal victory for Kwara State at the Oluyole ’78 National Sports Festival and his decade-long dominance as a state and national champion.
Atanda Musa attributed the rise of Kwara-born table tennis stars to hard work, discipline, and strong player-coach relationships.
Now based in New York and working with JP Morgan Chase for over two decades, he revealed his continuous support for table tennis in Nigeria through tournament sponsorships, financial aid, and mentorship programs.
“This gesture of naming the table tennis arena after me is a huge honor. I will never take it for granted, and it has further motivated me to continue giving back to my home and society.”
Coach Atanda Musa is among the prominent sports figures whose names were immortalized in the recent renaming of sports facilities by the Kwara State Government.
