About fifty-four outstanding winners have emerged from six competitive sports—Chess, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Ayo Olopon, Boxing, and Athletics at the 2025 Obasa Games in Lagos.
These young athletes demonstrated extraordinary zeal and the true spirit of sportsmanship, earning their share of an impressive ₦6million prize pool designated for the top three medalists in each sport.
Athletes from Educational District 1 dominated the events, showcasing their talent with multiple of them securing podium finishes. In the chess competition, 15-year-old Adu Samuel from Asa Community High School claimed the gold medal, while Adeeiga David, a 14-year-old from Multi Grace College, took silver. The bronze medal was awarded to Patrick Prais of ABS College from Educational District 4.
Okedairo Tomisin of Multi Grace College also shone brightly, winning gold in the Scrabble event. Silver went to Ajetunmobi Joel from Lagos City Senior High School (Educational District 4), with Aneef Kelani from Heritage Global Academy (Educational District 2) taking home the bronze.
The athletics competition was equally thrilling, with Shodipo Eniola and Ganiu Olamilekan being crowned the queen and king of the tracks in the Under 18 male and female categories. In the Under 15 division, John Bright and Okonkwo Nnwoma each clinched gold medals.
Kareem Yusuf from Power Boxing Club (Educational District 5) emerged as the champion in the Under 18 male boxing category, while Nimotallahi Ajayi of Aso Rock Boxing Club earned the title of queen of the ring.
Ayo Olopon, making its debut at this year’s Obasa Games, saw Kasali Adams claim the gold medal, with Majaro Abideen from Dungunya Senior Grammar School (Educational District 2) taking silver and Junaid Zainab of Jaiye Ojokoro Senior College securing bronze.
In Table Tennis, Aina Sultan of Kota Junior Secondary School rose to the top in the Under 15 boys’ category, followed closely by Adeleke Fikayo from Government College, Eric Moore, and Opeoluwa Isaac from Gbaja Boys Junior High School, who secured silver and bronze, respectively. Omitaomu Samson from Cardos Junior High School, Ajegunle, tied for third.
In the Under 15 girls’ category, Kuyoro Mary of Army Children Senior High School, Ikeja, claimed gold, while Ogidiolu Olasubomi of Multi Grace College and Amoo Fathia from Eko Akete Grammar School, Lagos Island earned silver and bronze, respectively. Sulaimonan Rukayat from Orile Agege Community Junior High School shared the third position.
For the Under 18 boys and girls, Ekundayo Ishola of Nightingale Academy, Merian, and Afolabo Aisha of State Senior High School, Oyewole Agege, emerged champions. Armoire Quam of Birch Freeman Senior High School, Mushin, and Olorunkoya Aisha from Odo Obara Senior High School, Epe claimed silver, while Adelanwa Hameed of Siddys Sydney School, Agege, and Jimoh Saidat from Iponri Senior High School, Surulere secured bronze. The duo of Savage Samod from Eko Akete Grammar School, Lagos Island, and Olorunwa Sarah shared the third place.
Chairman Local Organising Committee, Moshood Ajibola expressed his excitement: “Gradually, we are moving to the end of Obasa Games 2025. It’s been a remarkable event for everyone most especially for the children that participated in other sports.
“The future of Sports in Nigeria is very bright with the talents we have discovered so far in athletics, boxing, chess, scrabble, table tennis, and Ayo Olopon.
“Now that we have concluded the finals in the six other, our attention now is on the football event knockout rounds and the finals, which is scheduled to hold on December 13, 2025.”
